Automatic Shutdown

I just installed a program on my computer yesterday called ‘PowerOff‘. With this program you can shut down, hibernate, log off, power off,… your computer immediately or on a scheduled time etc. I configured it yesterday to shut down after 15 minutes when I went to bed. I had put on some Philip Glass music and when I woke up this morning, to my great satisfaction, I noticed my computer had shut down.

And more miraculously… It hadn’t restarted! Before I installed this program and changed one setting in my registry I had to manually poweroff my computer by cutting the power or it would restart. So now I solved both that, and I can shut down my computer on a scheduled time.

I just configured it (with the help of ‘Scheduled Tasks‘) to power off my computer every day at 1am, 2am, 3am, 4am, 5am, 6am and 7am. So at each of those hours I get a warning message that my computer will be shutting down in 5 minutes. I can cancel it of course since sometimes I do have a reason to be up that late, but it should definitely encourage me to go to bed when it’s late ;).

But more importantly. It will make sure that my computer isn’t on in the morning. This is definitely a positive thing when I have classes at 9am or I should study etc. :)

So… Anybody that would like to be able to shut down his computer automatically, take a look here. (Made by a Belgian :P)

You mean you got up without turning on the computer? *shock* *gasp* That’s not possible…….. is it? Hm, maybe this is something I need to invest in. (I’m currently eating breakfast at the computer, heh heh)

Heh, it’s freeware you know… :) The only thing you have to invest in it is downloading it and installing it (doesn’t take more than 5 minutes in total).

The thing I’m trying to prevent actually is that the first thing I do when I get up is pressing the power button of my screen :P.

Welcome to my blog btw ;)
