Broadening My Vision
Well, as you could read in my last post, I bought a stand-alone dvd player a few days ago, but I didn’t get any image. I went back to the store yesterday to discuss this with the person that sold me the dvd player. It was a pretty draining argument because while I realized that I should have done more research, I thought he should have told me about HDCP or at least he should know what it is. None of the people in the store had ever heard of HDCP, which is something I don’t get when the dvd players you’re selling has HDCP.
Anyway… We agreed on…
…having me buy an LCD television with an extra discount of 200 € as a compensation for the troubles on top of the already established discount of 200 € due to planned alterations of the store. That’s a 400 € discount in total. I had been planning on buying an LCD television somewhere in the near future (the coming half year or something), but honestly not this soon since the money I used to buy it now wasn’t really meant for this.
But well… I was stuck with a dvd player that I could barely use and there was no way to get around it, except for returning it and buying something new, or buying a new screen. So in the end I’m fairly happy with the way we got the issue solved. I think a 200 € discount was reasonably fair. I hope that in the future when they have a customer saying the words ‘dvd player’, ‘DVI’ and ‘computer’ in the same sentence, it will ring a bell so that they can ask the customer whether his computer or computer screen supports HDCP…
For those curious as to what screen I bought in the end… It’s the one in the right top corner of this post obviously. A 26″ widescreen Wega-Engine Sony KLV-26HG2 which got a rating of 9.2/10 on kieskeurig.nl, which means it got the best rating of all LCD televisions on the site. I checked it with my own (new) dvd player and my own The Two Towers dvd and the images are stunning.

How’s study?

Hehe, I know… I did some minor adjustments to where things are placed, but I measured everything and it should all still fit ;). I think I’d do pretty well in a ‘fit-the-most-in-the-least-space’ competition :P.
When I’m not particularly watching a dvd, I’ll be placing it on the right side of my desk, on top of my fridge where there used to be a speaker and a black frame thingie with three drawers with papers. I moved the frame thingie on top of my closet (against the right wall), and I moved the speaker to the right as far as possible, so now the screen should fit on it, left of the speaker. I should be able to watch it from my couch.
But of course, when I’m watching a dvd I’m going to place it in the middle of my room as usual.
Concerning studying… I just studied four hours, three and a half more coming up today. It’s going pretty good, I think I’m reasonably on schedule with the other students. Exam is Tuesday. Oh, and I’m trying to move my day to the early morning again so that on Tuesday I’ll be waking up around 4-5am. Better for studying ;).
How’s it going with you over there?

Very well, thank you. I am glad you’re doing ok. How about the BBQ. You’re all a bunch of lazy students you know. Maaike and I are becoming very impatient (and also very hungry ;-)) .
Nevertheless, I wish you all the best with the exam and I am looking forward to see you all again.
