I’m In Seventh Heaven…
My god… I’m soooooooooo happy! I haven’t felt like this in a looooooooong time.
First of all, my exam went pretty well, I think I should have a 6.5/10, so I’m giving myself an 80% shot of having passed the exam, which means that until the grades are available I’m assuming that I passed :).
But what made me float all the way to the seventh heaven was my talk with Ignas, my teacher of Astronomy Lab, for which I made that research paper. I payed him a visit to get my report back and to hear any comments etc. And he was sooooooooooooo positive! At one point he said:
“You clearly have a talent for this…”
Isn’t that great? :D
He said there are two…
…kinds of aio’s (aio’s are research trainees, also known as promovendi). The first group has high grades and is particularly good at modelling certain phenomena etc, so they do more theoretical work, and the second group has somewhat lower grades but is particularly good at solving observational and technical problems.
He said that the observatory needs people like me for that second group. I don’t have to be spoon-fed, so I can be given a certain problem with a short explanation and I can take care of the rest myself, as I’ve shown during the time of my research project, he said.
I’ve always known that I’m not the kind of person to do a lot of theoretical work. Studying is just not my cup of tea, but I really like the observational part of astronomy, where you observe certain things and try to come up with some correct numbers about what you’ve seen… So having my teacher confirm that I’m really good at this and even have a shot at becoming an aio for the observatory feels sooooooooooooooo good :D.
**tries to calm down** ;)

From the bottom of my heart: CONGRATULATIONS !!!
Now’s the time to realize that you WERE good in the past, you ARE good now and you WILL BE good in the future!
No problem to “thumbs up”. The motivation your professor gave you is the best you can get to have a positive look at the near future!
I’m proud of you!

Hey man, that’s great news. I’m glad you’re doing allright. It seems like you’ll be joining the aio team together with me (you know I’m an aio to, don’t you?). Hope talking to u soon.
