  • Coca-Cola, Pepsi Cola, Royal Crown Cola, or a local equivalent.

Coca-cola of course. Pepsi stinks. I don’t know the other brands you’re talking about. On a related subject… Only Lipton Ice-Tea (carbonized) is the real Ice-Tea ;).

  • Dogs or cats.

Cats, most definitely. More about this in the question that noodle asked…

  • The Big Bang….. Does it hold water?

The Big Bang is a widely accepted theory. As far as I remember the main evidence for this is the fact that all galaxies around us seem to float away from us. The further a galaxy is, the faster it moves away from us. This is not an effect of acceleration, but more of ‘uniform’ expansion. Every alien in the universe witnesses the same effect: everything moving away from him. These observations allowed us to calculate an approximate age of the universe: approximately 14 billion years. I’m pretty sure 99% or more of astronomers accept this theory.
Of course I’m proud to be a Belgian in this case:

“[…] In 1927, the Belgian Catholic priest Georges Lemaître independently derived the Friedmann-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker equations and proposed, on the basis of the recession of spiral nebulae, that the universe began with the “explosion” of a “primeval atom”—what was later called the Big Bang. • Intelligent life in other parts of the universe?

That’s another matter… :P… I’m confident that there is life in other places of the universe. I’m not so sure about intelligent life though. We have been the result of a series of coincidental chain reactions that led to ‘intelligent’ life. The chance that the same thing happens elsewhere exists, but I’m not sure whether it is significant enough to claim with certainty that there is intelligent life out there. Of course the most accurate answer to this question is: “I don’t know.” However, I would like to mention this great quote from Carl Sagan in ‘Contact’:

“The universe is a pretty big place. It’s bigger than anything anyone has ever dreamed of before. So if it’s just us, it seems like an awful waste of space. Right?” - Ellie Arroway in ‘Contact’ by Carl Sagan

  • I was watching Nova (a science show (if you don’t get it over there)) and they were talking about all the known elements coming from exploding stars (As the star gets denser, it keeps adding molecules until it reaches nickle, which won’t work, colapses upon itself, explodes with such force as to continually add molecules to form te rest of the elements….. How much water does this hold with you, or is this widely accepted?

This is widely accepted and it’s in every text book out there. We are literally made out of stardust. The only atoms that were available right after the big bang were Hydrogen, Helium and a tiny bit of Lithium. A few heavier elements came into being through nuclear reactions in stars. The bulk number of heavy elements however are being produced in nova’s and supernova’s.

More questions tomorrow by Liliana.
