New Computer Vibe
Earlier last month, as some of you might know, I bought a new computer :). I bought Age of Empires III (AoE3), the long-awaited sequal to Age of Empires II, and I used it as some kind of excuse to warrant upgrading my computer to something that could run AoE3 at highest settings. My old computer was about 4 years old, with a bunch of upgrades through the years, and it really wasn’t bad or something, but I had been wanting to upgrade for about a year, so…
I also wanted a webcam and a dvd-writer, so a new computer was a nice moment to buy those as well. I sold my old computer for 250 euro on a Dutch equivalent to eBay, so that reduced the total cost a bit. For those interested… Here are the specifications of my new computer ;)… I’ll try to get a picture from the hardware at some point…
- AMD Athlon 64 3800+ processor
- Zalman 120 mm CPU cooler
- Corsair 1024 MB RAM
- GeForce 7800GT 256 MB graphics card
- Creative Audigy 2 sound card
- Antec Black Quiet Edition case (incl. 120 mm back side case fan)
- Zalman 92 mm front side case fan
- Asus mainboard
- Maxtor 250 GB SATA hard drive + my old harddrive of 80 GB
- Asus 16x Dual Layer DVD Writer
- Asus 16×48x DVD player
- Sony diskdrive
I’m overclocking the system with 10 %, so the CPU is running at 2.64 GHz right now instead of the normal 2.4 GHz. And concerning AoE3… It looks fabulous ;). I also installed WindowBlinds recently as well as some other StarDock software, so right now my Windows skin looks like the picture on the right. Pretty neat, don’t you think? I really like the task bar, as well as the Mac-like object-dock on the right.
So, yep, I’m happy with the new pc! :)

Total price was 1250 euro.
The graphics card is great as far as I’m concerned. I’ve only used it for AoE3 up till now though, so don’t ask me about other things. I’m definitely happy with it.

Nice! :D I think I played AOE1 (or was it 2?) back when I was in undergrad… a real distraction especially if you are also playing Baldur’s Gate, Sim City, Roller Coaster Tycoon and Civilization! Time flies when you are playing… now I’m just happy to play SOC… opps.. I’ve greyed out again.. sigh :)

Hey, a webcam? Cool! So does that mean I’ll be able to chat with you AND see your skinny, regretfully adult a** soon? :Þ
