First Time Crutches
For the first time in my life, I’m walking around on crutches… Last night I tore a ligament on the outside of my right ankle while playing volleyball. I didn’t know what happened, but from what my team mates said, apparently someone of the other team landed against my ankle while landing from his attack (while I was landing from my defense), twisting my ankle in the process.
Apparently a ligament on the outside of my right ankle was strained and partly torn. After the game we went to the First Aid in the hospital of Leiden where they took X-ray pictures of my ankle. Fortunately nothing was broken, but nevertheless I’m walking around on crutches and am forced to have my foot higher than my knee as much as possible at least till next Thursday. Then I have a follow-up examination scheduled in the hospital…
Let’s hope it heals swiftly :-/…

Ouch! It’s been a few weeks– how is it now?

I walked on the crutches for only 6 days. Now I can walk perfectly fine again, only very rarely feeling any pain. However, last time I went to the hospital the doctor could pull my ankle along the direction of my leg quite far, meaning that my ligaments are still very flexible and not stiff at all. So if I’d start sporting again right now, I could very easily twist my ankle again, making it even more difficult for it to heal cleanly. So… no volleyball for me for at least another two weeks, but probably another five…
