Storm Damage
The heavy storm that passed over Western Europe yesterday afternoon did a lot of damage, including to our dorm. About 70 square meters of roof cover was blown off, a third of which fell on the street below while the rest got stuck bent over.
I was working on my computer at the time when suddenly I heard a huge bang on the roof, and then a huge piece of roof cover flew down right in front of my window. Luckily it didn’t hit any passing cars or cyclists. For the rest of the afternoon we were rather worried the rest of the roof would come off, which luckily it didn’t. The rain however did start to sip through what was left of the roof (basically wood) causing some water damage in two rooms. During the evening the fire fighters came to get rid of any loose pieces on the roof and to cut down the rest of the roof cover that was bent over. It was too big however for the manpower they had, so they couldn’t get rid of it.
This morning someone came over to put a temporary cover on the roof to stop the water from coming in. Luckily the skies are clear at the moment. In the picture you can see a pretty bad panorama picture of what our roof looked like yesterday afternoon.
